Iran launched over 30 missiles at Israel early on June 22, hours after the United States conducted airstrikes on three of Iran’s major nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The missile barrage targeted multiple Israeli cities including Tel Aviv, Haifa, Nes Ziona, Rishon Lezion, and Ben Gurion International Airport. Air raid sirens were sounded across central and northern Israel, and missile interception efforts were activated.
The Israeli military confirmed that at least 10 sites were struck. In Haifa, a northern port city, the Iranian missile strike injured at least 31 people and damaged several buildings. Among the damaged structures was the historic Al Jarina Grand Mosque, originally built in 1775 and expanded in 1901. Nearby infrastructure and residential buildings also sustained damage.
Rescue service Magen David Adom reported that 11 people were hospitalized following the latest wave of strikes. One of the injured, a 30-year-old man, was wounded in the upper body by shrapnel and is in moderate condition. Iranian missiles also reportedly targeted government offices, power infrastructure, and port facilities.
The Iranian attack followed US airstrikes carried out earlier the same day. The United States deployed B-2 stealth bombers from Missouri, flying for 37 hours to drop six GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs on Iran’s deeply buried Fordow nuclear site. Simultaneously, US Navy submarines in the Persian Gulf launched 30 Tomahawk missiles at Natanz and Isfahan. Iran later stated that no radioactive contamination had been detected at the sites.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the Iranian missile attacks, stating that “Iran is trying to kill Israelis of all faiths, Muslims included,” and noted that the attack damaged Haifa, a city known for its religious diversity. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Iran would “pay the full price.” Meanwhile, international organizations and officials have issued calls for restraint and de-escalation.
